Twenty Years Ago Today

I lost my best friend, my protector, my Mom. She was everything to me. She is the one who taught me to love and laugh, smile even when I feel like crying, to appreciate the small things in life, and the big ones too.

She taught me right from wrong. To treat people the way I want to be treated. To look past the color of someone’s skin, and accept them for who they were.

She encouraged me to read and write. To believe in dreams. To believe in God. As well as in Unicorns, Jedis, and all sorts of magical and mythical things.

She wasn’t perfect. She had her flaws. But there was never a day that went by in all of the 29 years I got to spend with her, that I didn’t know how much she loved me and my older sisters.

Not a day goes by since that day twenty years ago when she died, that I haven’t missed her. That I haven’t wished to hear her voice, see her smile, or feel another of her hugs.

I love you Mom. Today, Tomorrow, and Forever.
